The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that every child receive an initial orthodontic screening by the age of seven years. While it may not be necessary to initiate active treatment at the age of 7 for every child, it is beneficial to provide early treatment in specific cases. It also beneficial to monitor dental development periodically to determine the timing of future treatment based on each child’s growth and needs.
Whether a child needs removable or fixed appliances, early orthodontic treatment can help preserve space for teeth that have yet to erupt, guide jaw growth, reduce the need for tooth extraction, address functional habits such as thumb-sucking, and reduce the length of treatment time.
We understand that dental offices can be scary for young children. Dr. Anthony Paventy and Dr. Brett Brown are very gentle and informative, and we encourages young patients to ask questions so that they understand what treatment is being provided in their mouth.
When you bring your child to our practice, we will be able to determine what treatment is needed and when it should begin. If early orthodontic treatment is needed, we will create a personalized treatment plan for your child.
